If you are not sure, do it in both settings and settings(admin). I'm a little confused by the parallel controls as well. -----Original Message----- From: Cornelius C. Noack [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, February 18, 2012 6:55 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [MiKTeX] memory dump file not found in MikTeX 2.9 I recently installed MikTeX 2.9 over MikTeX 2.7 (2.7 still active, but in a different folder). When I tried to run etex, I got the error " etex: memory dump file not found " " data: etex.fmt Following instructions (from the "managing memory dump files" page), I added `etex' in the `formats' button of the `settings' menu; then `etex' showed up seemingly properly in the `formats' list. I then ran `update formats' which, however, produced the error " miktex-makefmt: Unknown engine: etex " What am I doing wrong?? PS: I installed MikTeX 2.9 for all users. in the above, I chose `settings' , not `settings(admin)' etc.. Is that perhaps the source of my problem ?? Any help appreciated. ccn. -- .................................................................. Prof.Dr. Cornelius C. Noack Inst. f. Theor.
