The link copied from the Firefox Downloads window is:
http://mirrors.ucr.ac.cr/CTAN/systems/win32/miktex/source/miktex-2.9.4106.tar.bz2.
It started extracting then somewhere in the middle I started
getting error messages. Your link works perfectly. Thanks.

I wanted to see if it could be compiled with MinGW/MSYS
but the README only mentions Visual C++.
