Thanks David. My new laptop is a Dell Latitude E6430, running Window 7. The error message of the BSOD appeared and went away very quickly. I need to follow your advice to reconfig the laptop so that I can read the message more carefully. My old laptop is also a Dell (but can't remember the model) and is also running Window 7.
