"new PC" => Windows 8, I presume? You refer later to an old laptop which works, is this new PC a desktop PC or in fact another laptop?

A blue screen of death includes error codes - what are they? If the BSOD is that repeatable, then you should have no problem reconfiguring the computer either not to restart and/or using utilities to read the crash report - http://www.howtogeek.com/163452/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-blue-screen-of-death/

It also important to ensure that you are using the latest drivers (some advice, say, here http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/tp/windows-8-drivers.htm but exactly where to find them depends on the make and model of the PC, which you haven't given) and have also installed all recent updates for Windows 8 using Windows Update/Windows Store.

What OS does the old laptop run?

It may well not be an issue with MiKTeX either, but without the error codes from the BSOD it's not possible to determine what is crashing your laptop.
