David: Windows 7 MikTex 2.9 (64 bit) - which I just downloaded today Using WinEdit 8 to convert dvi to pdf (so I do not know exactly how it does it) Examples of tex, dvi and pdf files are attached. I just moved to a new computer, but did not have this problem on the old one running MikTex and using WinEdit 7 (I checked with WinEdit, but they said the warnings sounded like a MikTex problem) Paul: When I try to run pdflatex directly (again via WinEdit) I get other problems: messages that certain files are missing. It asks if I want to install them. Although I say "yes" it seems like they do not get installed. Thanks for any help.
