Proxy configuration crashes

I just downloaded Miktex to generate a PDF file from doxygen
documentation. Doxygen gives me a LaTeX Error: File `xcolor.sty' not
found.

So I tried to download that package with the package manager, but it
times out. That's probably because we have a proxy server at our office.

Then I tried to set the proxy settings from the update screen connection
settings, but when I press the OK button after introducing the correct
connection data (authentication required) I see a message 'update
manager has stopped working', and I can only close the program. The
question: why does the update manager stop working when I introduce
these data?
