Re: eps-files in MikTex 2.9

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, Service Pack 1.

I had the enclosed Excel file

poly.xls.

I printed the figure by a Post Script driver to the file:

figthree.eps.

Then I opened the file in GSview, chose PS to EPS, and removed white space 
outside the figure by changing the bounding box automatically, and saved the 
file as

figthreezeros.eps.

Although my new version of GSview did not recognize that, it was really 
done, as I saw when I opened the files in Photoshop, and when I used MikTex 
2.8.

Then I used the file:

mysterious_eps.tex

with the following contents:

\documentclass [12pt,twoside,a4paper,fleqn]  {article}

\usepackage {graphicx}
\usepackage {latexsym}
\usepackage {float}

\begin {document}
I try to typeset this page:

\begin {figure} [htb]
\centering
\includegraphics [width=\textwidth] {figthreezeros}
{\label {threezeros}
This polynomial has three zeros.
}
\end {figure}

\end {document}

When typeset by MikTex 2.8, using  XeLaTex, it gave the correct result as 
shown in the file:

mysterious eps_2.8.pdf.

When typeset by MikTex 2.9, again using  XeLaTex, the figure disappeared 
completly, as shown in

mysterious.eps_2.9.pdf.

If I forced the figure to by smaller by writing [width=.2\textwidth], the 
curve showed up again, byt very small and in the wrong place, as shown in 
the file

mysterious.eps_2.9_narrow.pdf.

It seems rather difficult do get these illustrations, but I have made many 
figures in this way for several years, and I am afraid that MikTex 2.8 might 
be unavailable to  my next computer.

It impossible to answer your question without a minimal example and
one of the problematic eps-files.

But in my experience such problems are due in most cases to faulty
eps-files. ps to eps from ghostscript does not create in all cases
correct eps files:
