As suggested by Joseph use the correct driver option, e.g.:

\usepackage[dvipdfmx]{graphicx}

(This can disturb YAP as YAP needs the default dvips driver)

Or use pdflatex instead of latex + dvipdfm(x) with this code

\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{epstopdf}
