biber problems

This is likely something asked before but I upgraded to Miktek 2.9 and now I
can not compile my references. I got some help on stackflow tex site but my
question was a bit different as now I have to use biber. The package manager
says the biber file is 1.5 but the current biber is 1.8, and I keep getting
an error of unidentified citation. I have looked at the files in package
manager and it has a directory of texmf/miktek/bin but I don't know what
this path is. I tried copying the newest biber version to miktek/bin in the
install directory and then refreshing the database but doesn't help. It
needs biber and not bibtex because I use apa style. How do I upload to
install the updated package from the windows binaries on the biber website?
