Helpful messages for multi-round updates

At http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/200709/miktex-package-update-
select-all-grayed-out, I describe a problem of not being able to Select All 
to update packages.  Apparently, this is because the update may need to be 
repeated to (i) update MiKTeX itself, (ii) delete packages, and (iii) 
update packages as per user designation.
 
One respondent suggested that I post a suggestion here: It would be helpful 
if user messages are displayed if (i) or (ii) are occurring, which prevents 
(iii) [that is, until (i) and (ii) are finished].
