problem with installation of MikTeX 2.9 on Windows 7 ?

Due to a hard crash in an old Win XP I had to reinstall
MikTeX 2.9 from scratch under Windows 7 (32 bit).

The official installation procedure seems to have worked
properly, and the MikTeX software was installed  in
C:\Programs\Miktex29 as expected.

However, in the  start icon of Win 7 (under "all programs")
there appeared no link whatsoever for MikTeX 2.9  !

???

Even though it looks as if MikTeX seems to work properly
in normal use, this doesn't look quite right; e.g. I cannot run
any of the MikTeX settings, e.g. updates,or refreshing the
File Name Data Base doesn't operate (or at least I don't
know hows to call it).

In addition, my music program pmxab
[ ' C\Programs\Miktex29\localmiktex\miktex\bin\pmxab ' for long ]
stops on the second pass, saying that the TeX result of the first pass
cannnot be understood properly.

Probably  will have to run deeper into what's going on
in the various PMXprograms; but first I want to make sure
that I am not missing anything in the complete
MikTeX File Name Data  Base .

Can anybody have a suggestion of what/if I am doing something wrong?
In particular: Ulrike Fischer ?? In the past, I have been seeing
from/ given useful suggestions to/ you, Ulrike, that I fervently hope
you can give one of your fervent replies to me too at this time.
