No texworks is not involved. You get the same error on the command
line:

G:\Z-Test>xelatex "test space.tex"
This is XeTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-0.99991 (MiKTeX 2.9)
entering extended mode
xelatex: Invalid argument: "test space".log
xelatex: Data: "test space".log

I didn't notice it. I never use spaces in file names. I don't want
to spent my time to fight with quote levels.
