Apologize for raising a very simple issue. Just updated my miktex 2.9
system and suddenly TeXworks running the miktex-xetex-exe no longer accepts
file names with spaces. A minimal file with the name 'test file.tex' (note
the included space character)
\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
This is a test
\end{document}
fails with the message:
This is XeTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-0.99991 (MiKTeX 2.9)
entering extended mode
miktex-xetex.exe: Invalid argument: "test file".log
miktex-xetex.exe: Data: "test file".log
It appears to be a simple bug in the interface between TeXworks and
miktex-xetex having to do with Windows' way of dealing with filenames with
spaces.. I note that pdfLaTeX and LuaLaTeX both continue to work fine with
source files including spaces.
Removing the space or changing it so that Windows does not enclose it in
quotes solves the problem. However ... years of source text files with
included spaces in file names can no longer be processed by xetex ...
sigh. Hopefully this is a quick fix.
Regards all, and apologize if this has already been noted ... I did not see
it in the existing entries.
