Update procedure as of mid-December

I have held off updating my MikTex installation since reading about the 
issues with the November update, but I would like to do so now.

The page https://miktex.org/alert/package-refactoring-2016-11 opens but 
is blank.

So what is the current status?  Can I run the updater now and it will 
take care of things correctly?  Do I still need to make some manual 
adjustments?  If so, where can I get the information?
