One suggestion: When packaging for Debian, we compress all documentation files[¹] with gzip. This is no problem for texdoc, because it is designed for this, but it currently requires that we patch the helpindex files. It would be great if you provided a script that could regenerate the file on a given site, and take .gz (and possibly .bz2) into account.
