Time for praying. Is there a a summary available? Web2C's tendency
to transliterate 8bit characters in error messages is one leading
cause of installation/usage problems for preview-latex
<URL:http://preview-latex.sourceforge.net>, and it also likely
complicates character-grained error location indentification for other
TeX shells.

It would be nice to know what to expect.

Good choice.
