  Ah, thanks! In the end I did something similar: creating the
$TEXMF/xdvi directory and copying texk/xdvik/texmf/{XDvi,xdvi.cfg} in
there. But just touching an empty file seems to be more (well) logical
and it works just fine.

  I certainly don't want to bother anyone :-) it's just that I
(unknowingly as I am) assumed that with using the no-x switch the
package really doesn't have any dependencies on X (that blows with the
t1lib) and knows about this (there is no point in looking for anything
xdvi-related since it is not build in the first place). But well, easy
to say for me :-) I'll try to understand the interworkings there a bit
more before I put for more wise comments.
