Hi, first of all I must say that it is great that Richard Kinch makes the fonts available. I have prepared a .ps file which shows the differences between CMMI10 (from AMS, red) and cmmi10 (from Richard Kinch, blue). It can be downloaded (133 kb) from: http://www.kammer.uni-hannover.de/~reinhard/fontsample/CMMI10-cmmi10.ps It is interesting to see the differences in /beta. The program which produced the file was a quick hack to find out whether the free URW fonts are identical to the original Adobe fonts. It assumes AdobeStandardEncoding but has a commandline option which allows to show all encoded glyphs, which has been used here. It would be helpful if it could convert a .gf font to Type3 and put it in the background. That would make it quite easy to see which /beta is closer to Knuth's design, but unfortunately it's not at the top of my TODO list.
