font warning messages in pdftex

Hello,
My apologies if this is an FAQ, but I can't find an FAQ list for tetex. 

When I run files through pdftex, I get a great many (30-40) warning messages
about invalid or missing fonts. This doesn't affect the final .pdf file, but it
is very annoying and makes it difficult to see any other warning messages that I
might care about. I've had this problem with both the Fedora Core 1 and TeXlive
installations of TeX under linux.

Is there any way to get rid of these messages, either by telling pdftex not to
generate them, or by actually fixing the offending configurations files?
