lucidabr.map and all use the Karl Berry names for the lucida fonts,
which are names like hlhi8a.pfb and suchlike. lucidabr-o.map (the o is
for old) uses the older names from Y&Y, such as lbr.pfb. Since you
bought your lucida fonts before I did, and mine were even still shipped
with the old names, I'm guessing you need the -o maps :)

Or you could rename the fonts, to be compliant with modern standards. I
did that in a failed attempt to fix the problem you have now, before I
learned how to fix it, so I have both old and new names now. But the old
names are just as good as the new ones, and it is exactly as you said:
