Unfortunately, texi to Docbook conversion is not lossless, and I doubt
it will ever be. Yet it got considerably better lately, thanks to bug
reports previously made.
So, before spending enormous time rolling a ??? on your own, I suggest
trying makeinfo --docbook from CVS and to see if it covers your needs.
Who knows, your bug reports may even make it suitable for others as
well. ;-)
If you see that conversion is not even close to resembling the Texinfo
origin, I suggest you to try:
texi --------> texinfo.dtd XML ---> LaTeX
Makeinfo XSL
I believe XSL will be the shortest path, more especially if you are
already familiar with it.
