You have to give a landscape option.

That's because the slide environment put everything inside a minipage.
A minipage can not be split with \pause. Conclusion: You can't use the
slide enviroment.

I normally use FoilTeX - foils.cls - for my presentations. It works 
great with texpower and supports landscape without problems. (Get the 
latest version of FoilTeX from a CTAN mirror close to you.)
