It might be a font issue or just a difference between the Windows and 
Linux version of Acrobat Reader... How do produce your pdf file - 
latex+dvips/distiller or pdflatex? What is the contents of 
  File -> Document properties -> Fonts
in Acrobat Reader under Windows and Linux. (Names and type, please)
