That is because you put Scheme 2 in a boxed step - so in step one you 
have Scheme 1 visible AND Scheme 2 boxed, hence taking more place than you
want.

Using the suggestion from Kockaert Pascal with a minipage (or some other box
with a given height) for the schemes and *not* using bstep should work nicely.
