\Step and "Missing \item"

Hi list.

I am trying to create a seminar presentation. At first
I tried \pause, but it changed the slide alignment.
Then I found \step and it solved the problem with
\liststepwise. My problem now is that the following
code doesnt compile:

\liststepwise*
{
     \begin{colitemize}
        \step{\item{A}}
        \step{\item{B}}
        \step{\item{C
	        \begin{colitemize}
		  \step{\item{1}}
  		  \step{\item{2}}
	  	  \step{\item{3}}
	        \end{colitemize}
	      }
	    }
      \end{colitemize}
}

I get an '! LaTeX Error: Something's wrong--perhaps a
missing \item.'


What am I missing?
