What do you mean - that the overlay disappears when using a color background with texpower? I tested the pdfscrdemo.tex demo coming with texpower. I added an overlay and used lightbackground - it worked. Or did you think about background pictures in general? That should work too since the overlay command in pdfscreen only use \put and \includegraphics An minimal, but complete, example would help tremendously.
