Where did you install the fonts?
In Debian and Ubuntu it is  installed in /usr/share/fonts,
Make sure that file permissions are OK. Others should
be able to read the fonts.
You have to also run the command
fc-cache -rvf  as root.
It is not enough to run texhash.
