I can't blame you that you didn't know about these variables.  There
should be a section in the docs about cleaning up...

I still think it's a good idea to add clean-local, because cleaning up
may involve more than deleting files and directories.  Also, it allows
splitting the task up in pieces:

	clean-local:  clean-this clean-that
		:print Finished cleaning up.
