I don't care whether it's called id or note ;-)

Exactly, that's why I'm implementing them. ;-) I personally prefer to code 
them in Python rather than add them to the C core, because the code is so 
much cleaner, I'm so much more productive in Python, and it has all these 
standard libraries to deal with xml, regular expressions, ... . Not to 
mention the existence of Qt bindings for Python ;-)
