Thanks - but actually there's no need to apologise.  The amount of
work you put into the uk xmltv grabber is impressive and I'm very
grateful for it.

OK - that explains that.  I was thinking that maybe the programme id
could be used to detect if a programme title had changed, but
obviously not.

I think I'm likely to start down the custom rule route as well.
