I apologise that you missed the recording due to this late update. I
think this is the first time I've heard of this happening (although it
can't be the first time it has happened). I try to get updates
incorporated at least a week ahead of transmission where fixups are
specific to a particular programme title. Many fixups can be applied
automatically whenever a specific title (or title pattern) appears in
the listings, but others need to be added on a per-occurence basis.

Correct.

MythTV creates these ids based on a hash of a programme's title text.
If title fixups are enabled in uk_rt and a programme title is changed
(to move part of the title text to the subtitle, for example), the
programme id would change in MythTV the next time XMLTV data is
imported.

You can maintain your own local fixups and use the XMLTV_SUPPLEMENT
variable to point the grabber to local copies of the supplemental
files the grabber uses. Note that _all_ supplemental files are
obtained from this location, so you'd need to sync the utf_fixups and
channel_ids files too. There are some notes on this variable in the
tv_grab_uk_rt manpage.

You can also create custom rules in MythTV that match specific names
in programme title's descriptions. I find myself doing this more and
more in order to catch things I might otherwise miss (irrespective of
programme title changes). MythTV really needs a good recommendation
system.
