That's what WinCvs does.

Don't know for sure whether this is included for other platforms than Windows but there CVSNT comes with a tool called cvsagent which will do just that. There should be no need to implement the caching in the frontend.

While I'm talking about cvsagent: I'm still having focus issues on some machines. The cvsagent window often gets openend behind the WinCvs window and doesn't have its own Taskbar button so unless you press Alt-Tab and see the agent window in the task list you will think the CVS process is hung. This happens in 9 out of 10 cases on my machine at home but has so far never happened on my work machine or in a VMware session. Could this be a graphics driver problem? (In any case I guess it's a CVSNT problem rather than a CVSGUI one, isn't it?)
