If users use the new CVSROOT wizard, the protocol prefix itself will become
rather long as it will also contain both username and hostname. If that is
the case, maintaining as much as possible of both the prefix and the path
(there would be no third component) effectively boils down to Jens'
suggestion about simply truncating in the dead middle of the string which
would also require far less parsing...

Good point. I guess we could even do without all that complex truncation
logic then...

Agreed. Especially as so far in my testing I never came across a situation
where either string would have had to be truncated at all as the window was
always wide enough... ;) I guess I'm not the only developer working at
rather high screen resolutions.
