Yes, I agree - I wouldn't want _all_ information in the graph view
either. I'm not even sure I want the additional info there all the
time, so an option would be the best.
However, usually, when I'm looking at the graph view, I need more info
than what's there, e.g. which was the last version I committed, some
specific comment, etc.
Walking the list and clicking each item, look at the console, etc. is
tedious - here the "compressed" info Claus suggested (i.e. user name,
date + first few characters of comment) would allow to find relevant
revisions at a glance.
I agree that the same would be possible using a tree view, but tree
views are much harder to grasp in overview - at least for the timeline
information displayed in our graph view.
Ideally, we'd provide
(a) an option to display _some_ info 'inline' in the graph view,
(b) optional tool-tips that display all the information for the
revision under the mouse, and
(c) an alternative tree-style view, with columns for each piece of
information if I need everything
