Re: Diffing directories with external diff

[Terminology] This is exactly what I wanted to say, I wasn't really 
aware of the difference.

[WinMerge MDI interface] I've looked at WinMerge's options (version 
2.4.4), the category "Common" ("Allgemein") has an option "Allow only 
one instance" (7th checkbox from top) that, when selected, would 
redirect new diffs to an already existing instance.

So, I guess, at least for WinMerge we don't need a "multi-file diff" 
option.

[Preview files to be diffed] Sure it's a good idea to have such a 
preview dialog in WinCvs, but it's not top prio for me. With a multi-
diff approach, you can easily see what comparisons are open in 
WinMerge's "Window" menu. -- A real advantage would be that the user 
gets the chance to see what files she's about to download and to 
choose the files she really needs if they were too many.

Good that you've mentioned the commit dialog, one would have to add 
the directories affected by the commit to the dropdown and do a 
module-wise diff for those on pressing the "Diff..." button.

Anyway, I miss a button like "Diff all" (or a dropdown item 
like "<all>") in the commit dialog. When several files and/or modules 
are commited, the commit usually represents an atomic unit of 
changes. To me, all changes are of interest and I always diff all 
files before I commit them.
