You don't need to export, you need to check out. If you export there's no 
way to update other than a complete new export. If you check out you can 
right click on a folder and choose CVS update when Tortoise is installed. 
But if you ask questions please always provide full information: Is the 
server on Windows? What version? Is it CVSNT? What is the client OS? What 
version of tortoise?
