Default file viewing apps with cvs

Can someone please tell me if there is a way to designate default apps
for opening file versions from the history window? When I choose to view
a revision from the history window my associated programs sometimes work
and sometimes don't-- eg, if I choose to open an htm/html file revision
I would expect it to open in Firefox, but instead it opens MS Word- -and
even then, the file doesn't display, it just opens Word. Similarly, if I
choose to view a version of a jpg, it opens in MS Paint rather than
XNview, my associated graphics viewer. Css files open in Notepad, even
though they're associated with Dreamweaver, txt files also open in
Notepad even though they're associated with Notepad++. Pdf's open in
Acrobat, as they should, Photoshop files (psds) open in Photoshop even
though I have them associated with Xnview, and Indesign files open in
Indesign as they should. Is there any way to clear this up?

I also use Subversion via Tortoisesvn, and none of these things occur in
when I choose to view an svn revision from the log window, so it appears
to be TortoiseCVS specific.

By the way: XPSP2. Also: I checked to make sure that htm/html, css, and
txt files are shown as text/ascii and they are; similarly jpgs and
similar files are shown as binary.

Any help would be appreciated...
