'svndbadmin' is not optimized for speed.  Or accuracy.  Or pretty colors.
Or anything else.  :-)

30 minutes is very believable -- you're essentially playing back the diffs
of every successive revision in your repository.  (CVS doesn't have this
problem because it stores diffinfo as a first-class data type in its
repository format, something Subversion doesn't do.)
