[p4] Questions regarding backup strategies for perforce servers

Posted on behalf of forum user 'roadkills_r_us'. Newer files in the archive won't hurt anything. The main way I can think of this would be a problem is if you obliterated files, then restored from a checkpoint with the "latest" depot data. Not sure what would happen then on rerunning the obliterate. Certainly you would not have those files. If you're really concerned that it's perfect, but don't want to stop your server, set up a read/only replica.
