Yup!  I think you've got it pretty well
covered.  Like Roadkill said, having a superset of the depot content
won't hurt anything (the db is the source of truth and p4d will
ignore/overwrite depot content that's not represented there), and you are
correct that if you have the current journal in addition to the current depot
files you can do a restore up to the instant of failure without losing anything.

The one thing missing is that each checkpoint should be getting saved off to
another device (along with a snapshot of the depot files) in case of meteor
strike or something like that.   :)
