I didn't send any additional message and everything is in the archives
as far as I can tell.

I've never figured that out exactly from the gnulib documentation, but
apparently that's when (potentially) the in-memory buffer and the stream
could have gone out-of-sync or the recorded state for the stream is not
the same across all handles.
