Chris,

Just playing devil's advocate, did you test to see if it worked BEFORE you
did step 4?

Best regards,

Metro.

Okay, I just tested it on Virtual PC:

1. Blank Windows XP
2. Install XP SP1
3. Install .Net framework 1.1
4. Install Vault 1.2.3
5. Install Vault 2 preview
6. Go to add remove programs and remove the Vault entry
7. Open IE 6 - You won't be able to use "Find" and "Open in new window" will
hang the new window

Following the directions to re-register the dlls:

regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll

fixed the issue - so vault is doing it it seems.

(Eric, the first thing you might want to try is to remove any Merge modules
from your MSI project and then re-add them in a different order - that fixed
this issue for us the first time it happened, the second time it happened I
had to go through and remove 1 MSM file at a time and recompile and test the
install to get it working - that is how I narrowed it down to the ChartFX
merge modules in our case.)

Regards,

(Trying again - sorry for sending to you directly Kenneth, Im new to this
whole mailing list thing. :) )

Kenneth,

I have had a similar problem in the past (as I said the installer for my own
application caused it on occasions) - and on those past occasions I was
indeed unable to select "Open in new window" - but that was one of the
features I tested yesterday to see if it was the same problem but it was
working, it was only the other 2 things I noted in my email that were not
working.

But I did install that MDAC update yesterday so you may be right (although
my PC was the only one in the whole office - 15 computers - that had the
problem, even though we installed the patch on all of them) - I will be
filing that KB article away for future reference.

Thanks,

Chris.

I forgot to mention that this will require a reboot after registering the
DLLs again.

This is not a vault problem just a coincidence. Microsoft issued a patch
through windows update yesterday for MDAC and I installed it on two
computers. Both computers exhibited the same problems you described. You
should also not be able to right-click a link and select Open in New Window.
To fix the problem run at the command line:

regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll

I uninstalled the trial version of the Vault Client 1.2.3 this morning - in
order to have a look at the 2.0 preview.

I then uninstalled the 2.0 one and didn't get around to reinstalling the
1.2.3 release again. All day I was recieving the following errors:

1. In IE 6 if I chose "Edit > Find" I would recieve an error about
"Interface Not Registered"
2. In IE 6, any windows that were opened by JavaScript would result in an
error about object not being defined.

This afternoon I tried to resolve this by reinstalling the Windows XP SP1A
but that failed to help, I then remembered that I had uninstalled the Vault
program this morning so I reinstalled the 1.2.3 client - the problem is now
fixed.

Either this is an isolated occurence or you might want to have a look at
your installation routine. (But don't feel bad, the installer for our
application (also an MSI file) would cause this exact error for a few months
until we figured out what it was - the ChartFX mergemodules - but I don't
think they are in Vault :) )

Just thought I would let you know. But of course nobody ever *uninstalls*
vault do they :)

My configuration might help:

Windows XP SP1A
Visual Studio 2003
Visual FoxPro 8 SP1
Crystal Reports 9.2
Visual SourceSafe 6.0d
Office 2003
SQL Server Developer Edition 2000 SP3a
ActiveSync 3.7
