Unfortunately, I did not see it until now - I was expecting an email, but I must have made a mistake in some notification settings, somewhere.

 I solved my problem of that day by using the svn commandline client.

 Having now read the "why-not-lgpl" article, I can say from personal experience that svncpp would definitely give free software an advantage over a proprietary tool trying to use the svn commandline client.

 I just want to clarify my position on this, because respect is one of the few currencies of the free software community, and I do not want to lose any here.

 I am a strong supporter of free software, as you can see from my work as former lead developer of wxFormBuilder and my personal package archive for Ubuntu - https://launchpad.net/~rjmyst3/+archive/ppa. I believe in the GPL, and, after reading that article, I am convinced that the GPL is the correct license for svncpp.

 So then, why did I ask for the LGPL?

 I was NOT trying to incorporate your work into a tool which I could sell. I was NOT hoping to earn a profit from your work.

 I was hoping to incorporate some SVN features into a tool that we use only within our company, or freely provide to our partners. My company does not sell software! We make car parts.

 However, this software tool could be distributed to our customers for use with the parts that they buy.  Unfortunately, other features of the tool include proprietary software that we buy from other software companies. I am not a lawyer, but I don't see any way to combine GPL'd code with non-free code and distribute the result.

 I was asking for the LGPL to make my life easier, without considering the larger effect of providing such an excellent library to the competitors of RapidSVN, or any other non-free software.

 I accept your rational for the GPL, and your offer to use the older LGPL version of svncpp. Even the older code will be a significant help to me.

 It would have been nice to collaborate with you through bug-reports and patches. I am disappointed that there is no license that could remove the copyleft aspect for non-competitors.
