Are you using the GUI Client or the IDE client?

What version of VSS are you using?

In Visual SourceSafe 5.0, the OLE Automation component has a few
limitations.

These include: passwords longer than 7 characters, usernames longer than
15 characters, labels longer than 15 characters, and total path names
larger than 128.

Please let me know if this does not fit your situation.
