As far as I can remember, you mustn't be in Edit mode
to use the ALT-D shortcut.

Hello, thanks for the earlier advice, and it taught me
I'm not yet
ready to bone my figure! I'll keep it handy.

In any case I'm having trouble with Alt-D.

First of all, I did the tutorial of Natalie's face at:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/duxbellorum/get_a_head.html

and that time, the Alt-D worked great.

Now I'm starting their tute atop my pre-existing mesh
figure of a
(headless) body. The Alt-D first was sluggish-- "most"
of the time it
didn't create a duplicate, and it's never giving me a
clone that
copies the other half. Any ideas on what might make
Alt_D flake out?

Thanks.
