I am using version 2.41 on Ubuntu Linux. If I create a new material it
says "MA:Material.001" but when I hover the mouse over it, it just says
something along the lines of "Click to rename the material." If I rename
the material to more accurately describe it, the ".001" goes away. I just
assumed that was Blender's Material naming convention. Should I be adding
that number to the end of my materials?

Directly to the right of the material name section is a button with an "X"
in it, a button with a car icon, and then a button with the letter "F" in
it. Then there are buttons for copying and pasting the material to the
buffer.

I betyou're right about creating those spheres in edit mode. Is there a way
to change it now, or should I just delete those spheres ans start over?
It's not a big deal right now as they are just a coulple of spheres, but in
case I make that mistake again, I'd like to know if I can fix it without
having to redo it.

Thanks again for such a quick and informative response!
