save and expost animations

i need to find out how to do this! I have looked at all the web sites 
i could find  so please help!

here's what i've tryed 
1- push f10
2-rendered the animation
3-then chose file type (avi)
4-push f3 

and all i can get is save jpeg or bmp.
 so please help!
