CinePaint users and in general Linux ones explore CM capabilities since 
quite a while. A starting point for most people is the display profile. 
Oyranos supports the Xorg and osX display profiles and common CM settings. 
While the common settings might be disputeable, CinePaint is still the 
only one to use them, the display profile is not. Doing these things from 
hand in every application is a burden.
