I have described the compilation procedure for *buntu in my post on 13 May this year in this list, or possibly this script: http://www.milan-knizek.net/files/scripts/cinepaint/make_cinepaint.sh should prepare the cinepaint's DEB package for local installation automatically. Download it to your home directory, open a terminal and type "sh make_cinepaint.sh" - it will install a lot of dependent packages and compile CVS version of CinePaint as of July this year. The DEB package would eventually appear in the home directory and can be installed with Nautilus by double-clicking on it. (Tested on Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64.)
