I am considering using Cinepaint instead of the Gimp and would like to politely ask if CinePaint can fill the bill. My reading up on the project history tells me that there is not always pleasant interaction between the two projects and I really don't want to dig into the open wounds, I only ask because a) I've never heard of CinePaint while Gimp is a high profile project and b) CinePaint is still pre 1.0 release which may reflect stability, but it may also reflect nothing at all, hence the reason I thought I'd ask :) I'm in the process of moving away from Photoshop (I recently moved to Linux and would like to totally rid myself of the proprietary world), and am deciding if investing the time and effort learning CinePaint is worthwhile or if staying with the Gimp is a safer bet. In short, is CinePaint stable both as a project and as a codebase, and can I rely on it for production work?
